About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Geriatric Medicine Specialist to join our team at Wrightington Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute their expertise in Acute Comprehensive Geriatric Medicine and sub-specialties, including Stroke Medicine, Ortho Geriatrics, and Frailty Services.

The successful candidate will form part of a team of six consultants and work closely with one Associate Specialist, three Specialist Registrars, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities will include leading General Care of Elderly clinics, as well as participating in Specialist clinics dedicated to Stroke, TIA, Falls, Parkinson's disease, and Dementia. The role will also involve working closely with community teams, consisting of Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Community Matrons, to provide proactive case management and support.

The trust operates a trauma centre, offering comprehensive trauma and Orthopaedic services, including Upper limbs and Lower limbs care. The successful candidate will have opportunities to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective patient care and outcomes.

Person Specification

  • Managerial structure within the NHS
  • Experience of Audit and its role in Clinical Governance
  • Commitment to training and teaching junior medical staff and other health professionals
  • Ability to work in a flexible manner

The ideal candidate will possess CCT - Dual accreditation in GIM and Geriatric Medicine, recent comprehensive experience in Geriatric Medicine, and hold MRCP (or equivalent), Full GMC with licence to practice, and MB ChB or equivalent qualifications.

Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary package, with an estimated annual salary range of £83,000-£128,800. In addition to this, we provide a range of benefits, including excellent postgraduate and research facilities, supports study leave for CPD, and aids with funding up to an agreed limit. We also offer flexible working options, subject to meeting relevant eligibility criteria.
