Job Summary

Norfolk State University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director for Sports Communication to join our team. As a key member of our athletics department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional support to our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators in the areas of media relations, communications, and marketing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective media relations strategies to promote our athletic programs and teams.
  • Write and distribute press releases, feature stories, and other communications materials to local and national media outlets.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with media contacts, including reporters, broadcasters, and other key stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of social media strategies to engage with our fans and promote our athletic programs.
  • Collaborate with our marketing team to develop and implement marketing campaigns to promote our athletic programs and events.
  • Provide support to our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators in the areas of media relations, communications, and marketing.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, mass communications, public relations, or related field.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience working in an athletic communications office or related field.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including video editing, graphics, and desktop publishing software.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Genius Sports and StatCrew software in multiple sports.
  • Experience with web management, social media strategy, and content creation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving as media relations contact for basketball, volleyball, and baseball or softball.
  • Experience working with volleyball statistics software programs (StatCrew and/or Genius).
