The Role

This exciting opportunity has arisen to join BEAR Scotland as a Road Safety and Active Travel Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering road safety and active travel engineering measures on the North-West trunk road network, contributing to Scotland's casualty reduction targets and active travel aspirations.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, design, plan, procure, and manage improvement works on the North-West trunk road network.
  • Detailed design of road safety and active travel improvement schemes.
  • Compliance with relevant technical standards, including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.
  • Road Safety Audit and Walking, Cycling & Horse-Riding Assessment processes.
  • Tender documents, preconstruction information, and construction packages for external tender or in-house contractor delivery.
  • Evaluation of tenders and contract awards.
  • Procurement, supervision, and measurement of improvement works.
  • Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality procedures in line with the company's Integrated Management Systems.
  • CDM Regulations and risk assessments.
  • Asset management and geographical inventory systems.
  • Cost estimates and financial performance monitoring.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Experience in road safety engineering and active travel schemes or civil engineering design.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.

Desirable:

  • AutoCAD software skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
