About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Healthcare Science Practitioner to join our Genomics Laboratory team at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Specimen Receipt and Send-out Team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory, including the receipt, processing, and dispatch of patient samples.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a first point of contact for booking in queries and provide excellent customer service to our patients and colleagues.
  • Oversee the workflow of Specimen Receipt and ensure that all samples are processed and dispatched in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of sample receipt, processing, and dispatch, and ensure that all data is entered into our electronic laboratory management system.
  • Prepare and package DNA samples and cultured cells for dispatch to other laboratories, ensuring that all samples are handled and stored in accordance with laboratory health and safety protocols.

Requirements
  • Foundation degree or diploma in an appropriate scientific subject, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience in handling patient samples and data entry, as well as working in a routine laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of laboratory health and safety issues, patient confidentiality, and ethical considerations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
