Orbex Space - RF Systems Engineer

Orbex Space is seeking an experienced RF Systems Engineer to join our Avionics Team in Forres, Scotland. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the development, integration, and test of airborne and ground-based radio systems for our Prime launch vehicle.

We are a rapidly growing company with a strong focus on innovation and sustainability. Our Prime vehicle is designed to be one of the most environmentally friendly launch vehicles in the industry, with a carbon footprint up to 96% lower than comparable vehicles.

Responsibilities:
  1. High-level RF communication system analysis, development, integration, and test
  2. Link budget analysis, RF line-up analysis, and hardware selection
  3. Conducting market searches to find qualified modules for the system, acting as a responsible engineer for hardware procurement from external suppliers, and handling all technical communication
  4. Developing test plans and leading unit-level and system-level electrical and environmental test campaigns
  5. Fault diagnosis and problem-solving on setup, during environmental tests, and system integration
  6. Proactively participating in design reviews and initiating design reviews to mitigate risk when appropriate
  7. Collaboration with colleagues from different disciplines, such as software engineering, mechanical and thermal engineering, and systems engineering
Requirements:
  1. Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering with a focus on RF/Microwave Engineering
  2. Minimum 4 years of work experience on RF circuit/system design, development, integration, and testing
  3. Hands-on experience in fault diagnosis and problem-solving during integration and test
  4. In-depth understanding of RF physics, impedance matching, filters, and isolation techniques
  5. Effectively using related test equipment, such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power sensors, and oscilloscopes
