Join Apple Orchard, a leading provider of residential childcare services, as a Residential Childcare Support Worker. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to support our young people in achieving their full potential.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Support Worker who can provide a nurturing and motivating environment for our young people. The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working with teenage boys or challenging behaviour and be willing to further develop their skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring a caring and motivating environment is provided for the young people, taking into account individual developmental needs and enabling them to reach their full potential.
  • Planning and preparing activities that meet the young people's needs and stimulate their learning and integration within the home.
  • Keeping well-informed of legislation, guidelines, policies to ensure the Children's Act, Children's homes regulations and the national minimum standards are met at all times.
  • Observing and assessing young people's progress and keeping accurate records of their achievements, behaviour and important events in their lives.
  • Working with local authorities/placing authorities to ensure the care the young people receive is outstanding.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with parents/carers in a way that supports young people's learning and development and values parental involvement where appropriate.
  • Being flexible within working practices of the home, where needed, including undertaking domestic tasks within the home.
  • Working alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the home is fulfilled.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience of working with teenage boys or challenging behaviour.
  • A willingness to further develop their skills.
  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • A Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level in Health & Social Care or equivalent – or be willing to work towards a required qualification.
  • The ability to engage the young people in a wide range of activities and support them through their time at Apple Orchard.
  • The ability to work a mixture of days, evenings and weekends, including shift work.
  • The ability to challenge unacceptable behaviour, provide firm boundaries and provide care which meets the needs of the individual.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • The ability to follow delegated tasks and handovers.
  • The ability to maintain policies and procedures.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • The ability to engage and listen.
