AWS Systems Development Director

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Systems Development Director to lead our operations and engineering organization for new AWS region builds in the UK.
This is a unique opportunity to work with AWS infrastructure and product teams to design, deliver, operate, and automate utility computing services for new AWS regions. As a Systems Development Director, you will be responsible for assessing risks, anticipating issues, overcoming technical obstacles, making high-judgement trade-offs, and balancing business needs with technical constraints.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the strategic vision for operations teams in collaboration with product, sales, security, and service teams.
- Drive critical aspects of operations and ensure customer obsession.
- Lead strategic initiatives and provide support to operations and development teams in the UK.
- BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
- Substantial experience building and leading engineering teams that design and deliver large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience in software development, systems engineering, and automation under UNIX/Linux.
- Demonstrated ability to hire and retain top performers and lead a high-performing team.
- Decisive, confident, and experienced with influencing others.
- Proven coaching and leadership skills, including evidence of successful succession planning.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to work at all levels in the organization.
- Experience delivering successfully at pace.
- MS/PhD degree in Computer Science.
- Experience managing engineering teams.
- Experience of problem-solving, debugging, and large-scale event management with customer-facing services.
- Successful track record in working on large cross-functional, cross-organizational transformation efforts.
- Experience working as part of a global team across multiple time zones.
