We are seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our team at National Grid plc. As a leading energy company, we are responsible for delivering major new infrastructure projects to connect clean, low-carbon power to the transmission network in England and Wales.


The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing for the transition of our existing infrastructure, which covers over 3,000 hectares of operational land, 300 substations, 22,000 pylons, and 7,000km of overhead line and underground cable.



Job Summary

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual with a strong background in commercial dispute resolution to join our UK Legal team as a Senior Legal Counsel. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering strategic and business-focused legal advice to our teams on complex, high-value civil matters.



Key Responsibilities

  • Manage external legal service providers to deliver timely and cost-effective advice and representation in formal dispute resolution proceedings.
  • Support the continuous improvement in business performance by identifying, managing, and mitigating commercial and legal risks.
  • Develop and implement effective risk management strategies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide training and support to other members of the UK Legal team and business teams on relevant topics.


Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with broad experience in commercial dispute resolution and contract law.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, civil procedural law, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) procedures.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Sound commercial awareness of the regulated environment in which we operate.


What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary of £80,000-£110,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits including:
