About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional individual to lead our Policy and Sustainability team. As Head of Sustainability, Policy, you will provide strategic direction, effective management, and dynamic leadership to drive our climate response agenda, develop impactful policies, and advise on the council's performance against our targets.

You will lead the development and delivery of a strategic business plan that maximises the service's impact against the council's priorities, values, and future plans. This will involve developing and delivering the council's vision and strategic direction via the Corporate Plan and policy framework, ensuring sustainability and inclusion are at the heart of both.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic direction and leadership to the Policy, Sustainability, and Inclusion team.
  • Developing and delivering the council's climate emergency response.
  • Leading the development and delivery of the council's vision and strategic direction.
  • Managing the team's budget and resources effectively.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including elected members, officers, and external partners.
  • Ensuring the team's work is well-coordinated and aligned with the council's overall strategy.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sustainability, policy development, and leadership. They will be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the council's priorities and values, as well as the ability to develop and deliver strategic plans that drive positive change.

Skillful communication and stakeholder management will be essential, as you will be working closely with a range of stakeholders, including elected members, officers, and external partners.
