About the Role
As a Handyvan Maintenance Operative with South Gloucestershire Council, you will play a vital role in providing essential building repairs and maintenance services to households, schools, and commercial properties across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out a wide range of building repairs, including plumbing, carpentry, flooring, painting and decorating, fencing, decking repairs, shelving, flat pack furniture building, and tiling and grouting in residential homes.
- Conduct minor works maintenance services in schools and commercial buildings, focusing on plumbing repairs, carpentry, window and door repairs, glazing, drainage, and painting and decorating.
- Assess work environments in homes or offices, including costing and invoicing for the work undertaken, using technical knowledge and expertise.
- Ensure all work is completed to required standards, adhering to statutory requirements and professional standards to secure the safety of staff and customers.
- Maintain accurate records of work activities, providing information and communicating effectively with external contractors and suppliers to ensure value for money is obtained for the organization.
Requirements
- Hold a working knowledge and experience of property maintenance, with a focus on safe working practices, including Health & Safety legislation as it relates to building maintenance.
- Have experience of face-to-face contact with the public in a working environment, demonstrating competency in customer care.
- Be able to meet timebound deadlines, financial targets, and costs in an operational team.
- Proficiently use a wide variety of hand and power tools associated with the building trade and have experience in using mobile working technologies, such as hand-held devices.
- Hold a good level of competence in literacy and be able to interpret information in various formats, including bespoke or standard ICT systems, maps, and specifications from paper or on hand-held technology.
- Hold a driving license and CPC to category C1E with no restrictions.
Desirable Qualifications
- Hold a trade qualification, ideally a City and Guilds, and be a skilled craftsman.
