Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Older Adult Psychiatry to join our team at Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical care to patients with complex mental health needs, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver excellent patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hold a General Medical Qualification and be on the Specialist Register in Psychiatry.
  • Have a strong understanding of Older Adult Psychiatry and the ability to provide clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Be able to manage priorities, understand the importance of working with managers in the interest of good patient care, and have evidence of management/leadership skills training.
  • Have an understanding of Clinical Governance in the NHS and be aware of current issues in mental health service provision, policy, and legislation.
  • Be able to provide supervision and appraisal of junior medical staff and have experience of carrying out an audit project.

Requirements

  • Hold a CCT in Older Adult Psychiatry or be on the Specialist Register in Psychiatry.
  • Have Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician approval or be able to obtain approval before starting the post.
  • Have excellent knowledge in Older Adult Psychiatry, evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement, and excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wider medical knowledge.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
  • Experience of medicine outside psychiatry, e.g., general practice, medicine.
  • Teaching experience and a wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the post within the NHS or comparable service.
