Makaton Trained Education Support Assistant Opportunity

Support Young Learners with Speech, Language and Communication Needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with learning needs, utilizing Makaton as a communication aid.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs) tailored to students specific needs.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment, ensuring students feel valued and respected.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SEN coordinators, and other professionals to support student development.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, contributing to regular reviews and assessments.
  • Support students during classroom activities, transitions, and other school routines.
  • Encourage independence and help students build confidence in their abilities.

Requirements:

  • Makaton certification or substantial experience using Makaton in an educational setting.
  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly in speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping children with additional needs.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team as well as independently.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection protocols.
