Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Resident Support Assistant to join our team at St Monica Trust. As a key member of our care home team, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional care and support to our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Delivering Personalized Care: Provide a holistic, person-centered service to care home residents, identifying their hospitality, housekeeping, and catering needs and preferences.
  • Maintaining a Safe Environment: Maintain a high standard of hygiene in accordance with health and safety, infection control standards, food hygiene legislation, and St Monica Trust's policies and procedures.
  • Room Checks and Maintenance: Ensure room checks, communal room comfort, cleanliness, hygiene, and laundry sorting are completed to a high standard.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Meet residents' unique needs and collaborate with colleagues across the care home teams, ensuring effective communication and teamwork.
  • Preparing Lounge Areas: Ensure lounge areas (where applicable) are ready for use as a coffee and bar venue for residents and their visitors.
Skills and Experience
  • Communication Skills: Write notes and messages, communicate with people with differing communication needs, encourage and influence, understand and follow instructions and procedures, and possess strong customer service skills.
  • Thinking Style: Analyze and evaluate given information, adapt style and approach appropriate to situation or task, structure tasks/activities, pre-empt issues and trouble-shoot, refer appropriate decisions to line manager, and challenge or suggest new ways of working to promote efficiency.
  • Well-being and Values: Be aware of cultural and individual differences in all interactions and service areas, demonstrate interest, care, and attention, create a positive impression, understand and respond to the needs of older people and people with dementia, collaborate with residents and relatives (where appropriate), and contribute to maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  • Working with Others: Work effectively as part of a team, build relationships of trust with others (team, residents, and their family & friends), and be prepared to handle challenging, physical, or emotional situations.
Other Skills and Qualifications
  • Essential Skills: Be confident with IT and using standard office programs, understand basic food preparation and cleaning techniques, have an understanding and appreciation of older people in a care setting, and possess knowledge of basic health and safety rules and customer service principles.
  • Desirable Skills: Hold a Level 1 or 2 in Food Hygiene (or equivalent), a Level 2 in Healthcare Cleaning (or equivalent), and have a general level of education (GCSE or equivalent). Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and video call programs such as Facetime, Zoom, etc., and working experience in a care setting are also desirable.
