About the Role

The Financial Controller will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial health and growth of Chepstow Racecourse. This is a key position that requires a highly skilled and experienced individual to work closely with the Executive Director and senior management team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and control the annual operating budget to ensure all financial targets are met and statutory regulations are complied with.
  • Provide strategic and financial guidance to ensure the financial commitments of the course are met.
  • Manage and appraise staff with direct reports to ensure they are motivated, developed, and able to fulfill their roles and responsibilities.
  • Work with the Executive Director and senior commercial team to contribute to the development of the course's strategy, challenging assumptions and providing analytical feedback.
  • Oversee the financial management and reporting of race day functions, including pre-raceday forecasts and post-raceday results.
  • Maintain visibility throughout the race day at key entry points to ensure customers are processed quickly and with valid tickets.
  • Instigate and manage recovery plans to address underperformance.
  • Take overall control of the accounting systems and ensure they are robust, compliant, and effective.
  • Monitor and review external contracts to ensure services provided by suppliers provide the best value to the company.
  • Oversee the preparation of the course's financial accounts and ensure they are presented accurately and on time.
Requirements
  • Qualified member of an accountancy body or holder of an equivalent qualification.
  • Full driving license with the ability to travel across multiple sites.
