Job Description

Ultra Maritime is seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineering Manager to join our team. As a key member of our engineering function, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of complex engineering programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of System Engineers, providing technical direction and allocating work to ensure project success.
  • Engineering Excellence: Ensure that project and statutory requirements are met, and work to improve the effectiveness of the systems design function within the company.
  • Tool Development: Continuously develop systems engineering tools, processes, and capabilities to support current and future programs.
  • Technical Solutions: Develop technical solutions to large and complex engineering problems, following Systems Engineering processes, to ensure customer requirements are satisfied.
  • Artefact Development: Develop Systems Engineering artefacts, as required, across the product development lifecycle, to result in a positive project outcome.
  • Project Delivery: Responsible for the design, development, and delivery of Systems Engineering artefacts for one or more projects to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the system, hardware, and software departments to ensure consistency, design for modularity and re-use, and technical excellence.
  • Design Reviews: Plan, coordinate, and present at internal and external design reviews, to senior management and customers, to ensure a successful event.
  • Project Management: Actively contribute to and/or lead defined aspects of the project to achieve optimal balance between requirements, schedule, and cost.
  • Customer Management: Manage customers and external suppliers to ensure compliance with agreed processes and achievement of project objectives.
  • Proposal Development: Generate and review technical proposals, and provide accurate estimates for the associated effort, costs, and risks, for bids and proposals, leading to contract awards.
  • Estimation: Estimate time and effort required for systems activities and deliver to these time and effort estimates to ensure cost and schedule adherence.
  • Document Review: Reviews and approves technical documents; chairs technical reviews for significant deliverables.
  • Communication: Explains technically complex concepts clearly to less technical/involved parties.
  • Security: Manage security of information as defined in the Security manual to ensure compliance with Government regulations.
Requirements:
  • Systems Engineering Discipline: Solid and proven understanding and deployment of the Systems Engineering discipline into complex engineering programs, to ensure project successes.
  • Requirements Development: Experience of developing high-quality requirements and establishing a fully compliant systems design.
  • Technical Documentation: Experience in writing high-quality technical documentation and the formal technical review of such material.
  • Development Experience: Experience of JAMA and hands-on development of either hardware, software, or firmware development, particularly in an embedded environment.
Education and Experience:
  • Education: Degree in an engineering, mathematical, or science-based subject or equivalent experience.
  • Industry Experience: Previous experience in the defense industry delivering complex platforms/systems is a plus.
Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be able to obtain relevant security vetting level status required for the role.

Relocation Support:

Ultra Maritime offers financial support to candidates that are considering relocating; this is considered on a case-by-case basis per role and subject to HMRC guidelines.

Nationality Requirements:

Candidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programs we deliver for our customers.
