Job Title: Orthoptist Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Orthoptist Specialist to join our team at the NHS. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality orthoptic services to patients of all ages, including children and adults with complex eye conditions.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive eye assessments and develop individualized treatment plans for patients with binocular vision, functional vision, and ocular motility disorders.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including Consultant Ophthalmologists, to provide coordinated care for patients with complex eye conditions.
  • Develop and implement specialist programmes of care for patients with complex ocular disorders, including those requiring intravitreal injections.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed to ensure optimal visual function and cosmetic results.
  • Participate in audit and clinical governance activities, including leading on school vision screening programmes.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Orthoptics or equivalent qualification.
  • HCPC registration and highly specialized knowledge and skills in orthoptics.
  • Experience of working at Band 5 or equivalent and evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi-professional team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to teach and mentor other healthcare professionals.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
  • Teaching qualification and experience of teaching orthoptic undergraduate students.
  • IT qualification and experience of using specialist software and equipment.
  • Experience of working in a hospital setting and knowledge of NHS policies and procedures.
Working Arrangements:

The successful candidate will be required to work autonomously and as part of a multi-professional team, with a focus on providing high-quality patient care. The post will involve working in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of patient contact and a requirement to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
