About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and specialized Orthoptist to join our team at Swansea Bay University Health Board. As an autonomous practitioner, you will provide quality orthoptic services to both outpatients and inpatients in two acute hospitals.

The successful candidate will require highly skilled and specialized knowledge and testing techniques to manage a caseload of patients of all ages, including children with significant sight defects and adults with double vision or visual field loss.

You will also be responsible for demonstrating clinical skills to junior doctors, student nurses, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals, as well as teaching orthoptic undergraduate students.

In addition, you will actively participate in audit and clinical governance, taking a lead on programs such as school vision screening.

Person Specification
  • Degree in Orthoptics or Equivalent
  • HCPC Registration
  • Highly Specialized knowledge and skills
  • Evidence of Post Graduate study in relevant area of expertise
  • Teaching Qualification
  • IT Qualification
Experience
  • Working at Band 5 or equivalent
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-professional team
  • Understanding of wider healthcare issues within the NHS
  • Previous experience at Band 6
  • Teaching experience
  • Evidence of taking part in research and audit
Aptitude and Abilities
  • Good Organisational and Planning skills
  • Able to work unsupervised
  • Ability to speak Welsh
  • Ability to teach other Health Professionals
