Merchandise Planning Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

As a Junior Merchandiser at JD Sports, you will be responsible for planning and developing merchandise strategies to drive sales and profitability. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing previous seasons and producing SWOT analyses to inform future planning.
  • Creating category-level product mixes using historical data, SWOT analyses, and sales and marketing plans.
  • Working with senior merchandisers to formulate space and grading plans for store distribution.
  • Ensuring that the WSSI is updated with buy plans and KPIs are signed off with senior merchandisers.
  • Managing scheduling and ideals for your area of responsibility.
  • Attending key selection meetings with senior merchandisers and buyers.
  • Building range plans and layout plans in conjunction with buying and visual merchandising teams.
  • Overseeing ratios for all buys in conjunction with assistant merchandisers.
  • Ensuring that buys match planned buys.
  • Establishing working relationships with supplier bases.
  • Managing order books and stock seasonality within the WSSI.

Trading Responsibilities:

Your trading responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing weekly trading performance and achieved KPIs, identifying issues and courses of action for weekly trading meetings.
  • Proposing and agreeing actions to recover risk and maximize opportunities with senior merchandisers and buyers at category and line level.
  • Monthly capturing all agreed actions in monthly forecast reviews.
  • Working up forecasts from category/season level to buyer group.
  • Meeting and gaining approval for forecasts, incorporating sales variance to plan, creation of OTBs, management of commitments, markdown proposals, and provision of retail with rack lists/hit lists through merchandise assistants.
  • Managing range plans in season, reflecting any changes.
  • Managing linecards and intake at category and line level.
  • Visiting and understanding store bases on a regular basis, creating action plans to optimize store performance.
  • Managing store option plans to ensure each store has the optimum amount of stock and neither too full or lacking key lines.

Teamwork Responsibilities:

Your teamwork responsibilities will include:

  • Reporting to senior merchandisers.
  • Working with senior merchandisers and buyers to deliver plans.
  • Guiding and directing merchandising teams to help deliver plans.
  • Providing and monitoring development plans for assistant merchandisers/merchandise assistants on a regular basis.
  • Communicating to retail teams anything that will impact store performance.
  • Establishing working relationships with store operations, visuals, marketing, finance, DC, etc.
