Specialty Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry Position

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialty Doctor to join our Old Age Psychiatry team at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide oversight and psychiatric treatment for 22 beds for patients with primarily functional illness on the Maples ward.
The Maples is a 22 bedded ward, staffed as a single unit but patients with functional and organic illness are managed in two fully separate areas (8 beds for dementia, 14 beds for functional). The ward is supported by a full MDT including access to OT, OTAs, psychology, physiotherapy and SALT. Maples 1 also benefits from input from a dementia nurse consultant. The ward is supported by a full time SAS Dr and two junior Drs.
The post holder will be expected to be a clinical supervisor for the specialty trainee and development as an educational supervisor is encouraged. There is also a robust and effective discharge planning team. One of the CPFT community geriatricians visits the ward one morning per week and all the community physical health teams are available to support the ward.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide medical input to the day to day functioning of the Ward including the admission and treatment of the patients.
- Psychiatric reviews of service users supporting a multidiscipline approach.
- Regular participation and contribution to team handovers, ward rounds, and multidisciplinary Care Programme Approach (CPA) reviews.
- Work effectively to facilitate timely discharge of patients from hospital.
- Ensure effective and timely documentation, including admission and discharge summaries, Mental Health Act reports, progress notes, and communicating clinical decision making and management plans to relevant parties.
- Liaise with partner agencies, including acute hospitals, social services, primary care and private and voluntary agencies to ensure effective joint working in the provision of care to service users, for example, in discharge planning.
