Medical Secretary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Secretary to provide administrative support to the HRAC Anaesthetics department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the department's administrative tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic, and providing exceptional support to the Consultant and their team.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. They will be proficient in Microsoft Office, with a strong background in administrative work and excellent keyboard and typing skills.
The role requires a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. The successful candidate will be a team player, with a positive attitude and a commitment to delivering high-quality services to our patients.
Main Duties of the JobThe Medical Secretary will be responsible for:
- Managing the department's administrative tasks, including scheduling appointments and managing diaries
- Providing exceptional support to the Consultant and their team, including preparing reports and presentations
- Ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic, including managing patient records and maintaining confidentiality

Person SpecificationThe ideal candidate will have:
- Educated to minimum GCSE level or equivalent
- RSA III Pitman or equivalent secretarial qualification
- In absence of AMSPAR, equivalent experience
Desirable criteria include evidence of continuing development, AMSPAR Medical Secretary Diploma Shorthand, and NHS experience.
Previous ExperienceThe ideal candidate will have demonstrable PA and secretarial/administrative experience, with a strong background in administrative work and excellent keyboard and typing skills.
Desirable criteria include NHS experience, patient administration experience, and recent medical secretary experience.
SkillsThe ideal candidate will have:

- Excellent typing, keyboard, and audio-typing skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable criteria include comprehensive understanding of patient needs.
KnowledgeThe ideal candidate will have:
- Computer literacy including Word, Excel, and MS Email
- Internet literacy including research tools and outsourcing
- Medical terminology
Desirable criteria include organisational structures, Lorenzo, database knowledge, Seeker, and Dictate IT.
