Job Overview

We are seeking an exceptional Clinical Lead Ophthalmologist to join our team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Glaucoma to take on a leadership role within our department.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading our glaucoma service, providing specialist consultant leadership, expertise, and support. They will develop and provide outpatient and surgical services for glaucoma patients from complex to routine. Additionally, they will commit to the new community-based glaucoma monitoring service, participating in its development, training, supervision, and virtual case review.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective treatment plans for glaucoma patients.
  • Provide clinical supervision of junior staff (medical and non-medical).
  • Contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trust's R&D framework.
  • Participate in audit programs, clinical governance programs, and learning from deaths.
  • Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty.
  • Undertake Divisional management duties as agreed.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • FRCOphth / MRCOphth or equivalent.
  • Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD or PhD).
  • Full Registration with GMC.
  • Name on GMC Ophthalmology Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment.
  • Wide experience in all aspects of Ophthalmology.
  • Advanced subspecialty training in Glaucoma.
  • Competence in performing high volume and complex cataract surgery.
