Associate Director - Transport Planning (Manchester)

We are seeking a highly skilled Associate Director to lead our Manchester transport planning team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business development, with a focus on the North West markets. This role will involve leading on work winning through established client contacts, building a solid workload, and managing a small team to support the existing team in Manchester.

This will require providing project management and technical support, managing staff, and mentoring junior team members. The candidate will be expected to take individual responsibility for projects, manage them, and be the client's main point of contact. Instruct, supervise, and mentor junior staff, as well as support their professional development.

The successful candidate will have relevant technical and market knowledge, experience of working on projects for the private and public sectors across the North West, and a keen, progressive, and versatile approach to transport planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proven project management and business development capabilities (including proposal writing)
  • Knowledge of the UK transport planning industry and the UK planning system
  • Extensive experience in preparing Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Transport chapters for Environmental Statements, etc
  • Self-motivation and capability to undertake specific tasks with minimum supervision
  • Ability to manage own time to meet project deadlines
  • Experience of delivering technically challenging projects
  • Experience of liaising / negotiating with public and private sector clients
  • Understanding of current design guides such as Manual for Streets and DMRB.
  • Knowledge of the application of junction modelling software

Requirements:

  • Degree or Masters in a relevant subject (e.g. transport planning, civil engineering, geography)
