Fleet Manager Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fleet Manager to join our team at Gregory Distribution. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for leading our relationships with external suppliers and ensuring the smooth operation of our fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of 6 direct reports, managing the rota and developing training programs as needed.
- Work closely with operations across Gregory Distribution to ensure maintenance spend is within budget (circa 1.2 million).
- Manage the Preferred Supplier List (PSL) of suppliers across the group, negotiating contracts and pricing.
- Regular meetings with suppliers and operations to discuss key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure compliance.
- Visit all operations and contractors to ensure compliance and customer satisfaction.
- Monitor roadside breakdowns, including refrigerated trailers, tyres, tail-lifts, and ancillary equipment.
- Ensure bookings are dealt with within SLA time scales and are added to the Fleet Management System.
- Monitor WIP (Work In Progress) and ensure it is completed within agreed timescales and monetary value.
- Ensure Gregory Distribution is compliant with all legal matters relating to fleet maintenance and roadworthiness.
- Manage recalls and campaigns in line with manufacturer recommendations.
- Produce KPIs for the external team.
- Lead the budgeting of R&M (Repair and Maintenance) costs within the external sector.
- Attend regular supplier and internal meetings to discuss performance, technical issues, and processes.
- Review pricing, suppliers, and performance to ensure the group is getting the best value and commercial benefits.
- Review processes for the team and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Previous experience in LGV Maintenance qualification up to Level 3, with excellent knowledge of LGV systems and fault diagnosis.
- Excellent understanding of DVSA regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with external and internal stakeholders.
- Strong strategic focus and continuous improvement experience.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities effectively.
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
- Proficiency in MS packages, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

- Salary: £52,000pa - £55,000pa, plus car allowance, depending on experience.
