Fleet Manager Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fleet Manager to join our team at Gregory Distribution. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for leading our relationships with external suppliers and ensuring the smooth operation of our fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 6 direct reports, managing the rota and developing training programs as needed.
  • Work closely with operations across Gregory Distribution to ensure maintenance spend does not exceed a budget of circa 1.2 million.
  • Manage the Preferred Supplier List (PSL) of suppliers across Gregory Distribution, setting up contracts and negotiating pricing.
  • Regularly meet with suppliers and operations to discuss key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Visit all out-based operations and contractors to ensure compliance and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor roadside breakdowns, including refrigerated trailers, tyres, tail-lifts, and other ancillary equipment.
  • Ensure bookings are dealt with in a timely manner, added to the Fleet Management System, and liaise with operations on costs.
  • Ensure Work-In-Progress (WIP) is carried out to agreed timescales and monetary value.
  • Ensure Gregory Distribution complies with all legal matters relating to fleet maintenance and roadworthiness.
  • Manage all recalls and campaigns in line with manufacturer recommendations.
  • Produce KPIs for the external team.
  • Lead the budgeting of Repair and Maintenance (R&M) costs within the external sector of maintenance.
  • Attend regular supplier and internal meetings to discuss performance, technical issues, processes, and procedures.
  • Continuously review pricing, suppliers, and performance to ensure the group is getting the best value of service and commercial benefits.
  • Review processes for the team, continually looking at continuous improvements for the area across Gregory Distribution.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in LGV Maintenance qualification up to Level 3 is essential, including excellent knowledge of LGV Systems and fault diagnosis.
  • Excellent understanding of DVSA regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic focus and continuous improvement experience.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities effectively.
  • Working to deadlines.
  • Able to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • MS packages to include, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

What We Offer

  • Salary for Fleet Manager is between £52,000pa - £55,000pa, PLUS car allowance, depending on experience.
  • Hours of work are Monday to Friday, based on 40hpw between 07:00hrs – 18:00hrs.
