About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Information Governance Officer to join our team at the NHS. As an Information Governance Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of patient data.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Investigate Data Breaches: You will investigate data breaches raised on Datix or received by the IG team, and raise issues as found that may be reportable to the ICO.
  2. Identify Trends and Themes: You will identify trends and themes from incidents and provide advice and guidance to staff.
  3. Collate Evidence: You will assist with collating and obtaining evidence for the security standards in the Data Security and Protection Toolkit.
  4. Provide GDPR/DPA2018 Advice: You will assist with GDPR/DPA2018 advice and guidance to staff.
  5. Lead on Facilitating Tasks: You will lead on facilitating regular tasks within the team that require attention to detail and the ability to identify issues that could result in a personal data breach.
  6. Support IG Knowledge: You will actively support with IG knowledge with attendance at regular meetings.
  7. Provide Cover for FOI Service: You will provide cover for the Freedom of Information service facilitated within the IG team.
  8. Assist with Policy Writing: You will assist with writing or reviewing of policies and guidelines as required.
Person SpecificationEducation and Training
  • Educated to degree level or have proven experience.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Knowledge and Skills
  • Good knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Computer Literate.
  • Knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Able to analyse, investigate and resolve queries.
  • Able to organise and prioritise workload.
  • Able to work autonomously or as part of a team.
  • Able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Logical approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge of PAS.
  • Knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
  • An understanding of the requirements of the reporting of Serious Incidents.
Experience
  • Administration experience in a busy office environment.
  • Experience of working in the NHS.
  • Experience of the Data Security and Protection Toolkit.
  • Experience of using Datix modules (or other similar risk management tool).
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
