Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the Paediatric Department at University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust as a General Paediatric Consultant. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, leading a team of healthcare professionals, and contributing to the development of the department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the on-call rota and take responsibility for the clinical care of patients.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in other specialties.
  • Contribute to the development of the department and participate in clinical governance, risk management, and clinical audit.
  • Ensure own practice is up-to-date and participate in the Trust's Performance and Annual Review.
  • Take responsibility for improving and complying with infection control practices.
  • Ensure that all Trust-wide standards are maintained to improve the quality of total care to all who come into contact with services provided by University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust.

Requirements
  • MRCPCH or equivalent higher qualification.
  • Fully registered with GMC.
  • APLS, EPALS, or PALS provider.
  • MBChB/MBBS or equivalent.
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR), or European Community Rights.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Further Higher Degree, MD, PhD.
  • Level 3 safeguarding training.
  • SPIN accreditation or equivalent for area of sub-speciality.

  • Good leadership skills and people management skills.
  • Willingness to work flexibly to deliver a safe and patient-centred service.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and develop effective working relationships with all levels of staff and staff from both within and outside the paediatric service.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership capability within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good organisational and management skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, supportive and tolerant.
  • Enquiring, critical approach to work.
  • Caring, tolerant, and empathetic attitude to patients, their families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses, and other professionals.
