About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Principal Ecologist to lead our internal Ecology team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a crucial role in providing ecological expertise to support our engineering, construction, and operational projects across the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, support, and mentor a team of ecologists to deliver high-quality ecological services.
  • Collaborate with design teams to reduce and mitigate ecological impacts and influence projects from initial design to completion.
  • Develop and implement effective project delivery strategies to meet business objectives.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks to ensure timely completion and high-quality results.
  • Provide expert ecological advice and guidance to internal stakeholders and external partners.
Requirements
  • Significant experience in a project delivery-focused ecological role, with a proven track record of success.
  • Experience in people management and leadership, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, technical specialists, and external organizations.
  • High level of organizational skills, with the ability to manage projects, workload, and deadlines.
  • Competent in UKHab and protected species appraisal surveys, with one or more protected species and mitigation licenses.
  • Good ecological report writing and reviewing skills, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA).
  • A good understanding of the UK planning process and legal framework.
  • Competent in the use and implementation of Biodiversity Net Gain.
  • Experience delivering ecological mitigation during the construction/design of habitat creation and enhancement of biodiversity.
  • A clean UK driving license and access to your own transport.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using GIS (ArcGIS).
  • Some knowledge of sewage and water treatment processes and construction practices.
  • A relevant degree in an ecological/environmental or similar related subject and membership to a relevant Professional Institution.
