Ecological Leadership Role

Are you passionate about environmental conservation and looking for a challenging role that allows you to lead a team of ecologists? We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Ecologist to join our internal Ecology team at Wessex Water.
Key Responsibilities:
As Principal Ecologist, you will be responsible for leading, supporting, and mentoring a team of ecologists who provide a wide range of services to engineering, construction, and operational projects across our region. You will work closely with our Design teams to reduce and mitigate ecological impacts and influence projects from initial design to completion.
Requirements:
- Significant experience in a project delivery-focused ecological role, including people management and leadership.
- Proactive and flexible approach with a focus on successful project delivery.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to work with colleagues, technical specialists, and external organizations.
- High level of organizational skills and ability to manage projects, workload, and deadlines.
- Competent in UKHab and protected species appraisal surveys, with one or more protected species and mitigation licenses.
- Good ecological report writing and reviewing skills, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA).
- A good understanding of the UK planning process and legal framework.
- Competent in the use and implementation of Biodiversity Net Gain.
- Experience delivering ecological mitigation during the construction/design of habitat creation and enhancement of biodiversity.
- A clean UK driving license and access to your own transport.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
