About the Opportunity

Nova Systems is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Advisor to join our Group Legal & Commercial function. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting our business by providing expert legal guidance and managing legal and commercial risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Legal Advice and Support
    • Manage a variety of operational legal matters, including general commercial, IP licensing, insurances, employment, corporate transactions, and litigation.
    • Provide cost-effective legal and related commercial support to Nova Systems' business activities.
    • Provide commercially orientated legal advice and engagement strategies in respect of project-based activities.
    • Effectively engage and manage external legal support within approved budgets.
  • Contracts and Commercial Management
    • Support Business Unit management with delivery of legal and contractual reviews, including commercial aspects of tendering activity.
    • Support and, where required, lead contractual negotiations.
    • Draft contractual documents and supporting correspondence.
    • Identify legal and related commercial risks, and support the development of pragmatic mitigation measures.
  • Policies and Governance
    • Develop, implement, and govern best practice policies, procedures, and tools to the Nova Systems Group relevant to the Group Legal & Commercial function.
    • Support the Group's corporate risk compliance function where required.
    • Liaise with the Finance team and Nova Systems business management in respect of transactional issues associated with foreign exchange, price variations, escalation, payment arrangements, and guarantees.
    • Support the management of group insurance coverages.
    • Promote effective corporate governance.
    • Support the maintenance of contractual databases and associated corporate records.
    Requirements
    • Relevant experience in providing legal advice on complex commercial contracts and a solid grasp of contract law.
    • Overall broad legal knowledge including IP, commercial law, dispute resolution, corporate law, and privacy.
    • Ideal experience in Defence, Aerospace, Engineering, or adjacent industries.
    • A commercial mindset.
    • Excellent written skills, particularly depicting complex ideas clearly and concisely.
    • Proven ability to work in a client-centric, deadline-driven environment.
    • Ability to act independently, use good judgment, and seek assistance where appropriate.
