Team Dynamics
This role is senior within our Business Strategy and Planning team, which is integral to our operations.

Our compact team is dedicated to ensuring that our organization functions effectively, with clearly defined, understood, and strategically aligned objectives.

We support various functions including planning, strategy, governance, project management, program oversight, and risk management, while also providing administrative support to the organization.

Mission and Impact
Our mission, established by the Environment Act 2021, is to hold the Government and public bodies accountable. We achieve this through various means, including monitoring progress against environmental goals, advising on legislative changes, and addressing public complaints that may lead to enforcement actions.

With a workforce of just over 70, we are a dynamic, approachable, and adaptable organization focused on environmental issues across England, Northern Ireland, and reserved matters under UK governance.

Role Responsibilities
The Senior Manager of Strategy and Performance is a prominent position with the potential to significantly influence our organization's success.

You will lead efforts to assess how we execute our strategies and plans, as well as what we are accomplishing, and guide necessary actions accordingly.

As an internal advisor to our Executive Committee and Board, you will ensure adherence to our mission, strategy, and objectives.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Enhancing our strategic management information and ensuring the Executive Committee and Board have timely, accurate, and relevant data.
  • Providing clear insights and recommendations based on this information.
  • Developing and implementing our program management framework, including change controls and performance monitoring.
  • Prioritizing our work program to maximize resource efficiency.
  • Managing our risk framework and supporting the governance bodies in strategic risk management.
  • Designing and executing evaluation projects to measure our impact and assisting in interpreting the results.
  • Establishing performance indicators and reporting our achievements to stakeholders.

Business and Resource Planning
You will play a key role in our organizational business and resource planning, ensuring our initiatives align with our strategy and are well-coordinated and feasible. This includes:
  • Collaborating with the Executive Committee and Board to formulate our organizational business plan.
  • Supporting resource allocation within governmental planning frameworks.
  • Developing our corporate plan for public dissemination.

Leadership and Project Management
You will lead our small project management team, ensuring effective project management practices are integrated throughout our operations, enabling us to achieve our planned outcomes on time and within budget.

Additionally, you will assist the Head of Business Strategy and Planning in shaping and executing our corporate strategy, which involves:
  • Supporting the development and review of our strategic objectives.
  • Leading projects that address critical strategic issues.
  • Acting as a champion for our strategy, ensuring clarity and understanding among colleagues and key external stakeholders.

Work Culture
