Customs Controller Job Description

About the Role

NES Fircroft is seeking a highly skilled Customs Controller to join our team in Aberdeen. As a key member of our organization, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with UK Customs Regulations and Legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and submit import and export paperwork, ensuring accuracy and compliance with CDS Data Elements and UK mandatory requirements.
  • Implement best practices to optimize Customs Procedures, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to regulations.
  • Verify international outbounds, confirming Commercial Invoices and Packing Lists contain accurate and compliant information.
  • Review and authorize Customs Declarations, ensuring data alignment with Clearance Instructions and completing Customs Entry Checklists as needed.
  • Maintain accurate Customs Records, updating SAP ERP System, Customs Registers, and shared areas in accordance with HMRC requirements.
  • Manage the shared mailbox, ensuring timely action on requests and adherence to team KPO.
  • Collaborate with the Logistics team to expedite Clearance Instructions.
  • Manage Duty Deferment Accounts, reconciling HMRC statements on a weekly basis and allocating funds for import VAT as applicable.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of HMRC MSS reports, ensuring Customs data aligns with internal records.
  • Provide support to internal stakeholders on Customs and Trade queries, ensuring adherence to current UK Customs Regulations and Legislation.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry updates and HMRC developments to maintain compliance.
  • Ensure proper handling and distribution of HMRC correspondence to internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in International Trade, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Educated by the U.K. Customs Academy to Level 3 or above as an "Associate Customs Practitioner" or equivalent from the Chartered IOE&IT.
  • Familiarity with U.K. Trade Tariff, Incoterms 2020 rules, and Customs & Trade requirements.
  • Proficiency in SAP ERP and MS Office, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet tight deadlines.
