Job Title: Senior Nurse

Job Summary:
Whittington Health NHS Trust is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Neonatal Governance and Risk Nurse to join our well-established Neonatal team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the NICU Lead Nurse and named consultant in delivering the quality, governance, and safety strategy within Neonates and the wider CYP.

Main Duties:
  • To work as Neonatal Clinical Governance and Risk Nurse in collaboration with the neonatal consultants to ensure the effective delivery of safety, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities in neonatal services.
  • To lead on risk management and incident investigations within the neonatal unit and liaise with the unit's multi-disciplinary team in implementing and supporting learning from incidents.
  • To develop and maintain best practice, following ICO, CYP, and local policies.
  • To implement clinical quality and safety strategies.
  • To lead on responding to complaints and disseminate actions and lessons learnt.
  • To facilitate neonatal audit activities liaising with the medical and nursing teams, Lead Nurse for Neonatal Unit, aDoN for CYP, Maternity Clinical Governance team to ensure risk management projects are prioritised and undertaken in a timely manner.

Person Specification:
Education and Qualification:
Essential:
  • Registered Nurse RN/RCN
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
  • Degree in Nursing and Specialist CPD qualification in intensive care of the new-born.
Desirable:
  • Training/qualification in Root Cause Analysis
Knowledge and Experience:
Essential:
  • Experience in all aspects of neonatal care at Band 6 level for a minimum of TWO years.
  • Understanding of CQC, CNST, GIRFT, and BAPM regulations and requirements.
  • Computer skills including: Excel or other spreadsheet package, Datix, Word, Power Point, good keyboard skills.
Desirable:
  • Experience of clinical risk assessment.
  • Experience of report writing and minute taking.
Desirable:
  • Ability to use root cause analysis and other patient safety tools.
