Job Title: Pre-Assessment Nurse

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic nurse to join our Pre-Assessment Team at Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough pre-assessment of patients undergoing surgery, including reviewing medical history, interpreting blood results, and making decisions based on clinical findings.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication skills to document accurate medical histories and identify high-risk patients requiring further review.
  • Work independently to manage a caseload, prioritizing tasks, multitasking, and managing time effectively.
  • Collaborate with a team of specialist nurses to support and improve decision-making.
Requirements:
  • Current and active NMC registration.
  • Pre-assessment course completion.
  • Experience in surgical nursing, including various surgical specialties.
  • Ability to interpret results, including bloods, observations, and ECGs.
  • Evidence of supervision and mentoring of learners and junior staff.
  • Autonomous working and previous experience managing a caseload.
Person Specification:
  • Understanding of the importance of pre-assessment in preparing patients for surgery.
  • Knowledge of long-term health conditions and consequences of poor management.
  • Ability to identify normal from abnormal observations and pathology results.
  • Knowledge of surgical specialties, pre-op, and post-op care.

  • Evidence of professional and personal development.
  • Willingness to undertake additional roles and committed to the development of junior staff.
