Swansea, City and County of Swansea, United Kingdom City & County of Swansea Full time

About Our Vision

At the City & County of Swansea, our vision is to make a positive impact on the lives of children, young people, and families. We strive to create a safe and supportive environment where families can thrive. Our practice framework, Signs of Safety, guides our work in small pods, allowing us to work systemically with families and effect change. This approach supports good supervision and collaboration between staff, enabling us to build positive, respectful relationships with families and ensure children are involved in decisions affecting their lives.

Our Approach

We take a strength-based and appreciative enquiry approach to communicating with people, recognizing the importance of understanding and exploring how best to work together in supporting individuals to meet their own personal outcomes. Our staff feel supported throughout their work, and we have a robust and proactive approach to reviewing and reducing the number of children looked after. This has resulted in a reduction in the number of children placed outside Wales.

What We Offer

  • A positive and supportive working culture where staff are trusted to do their job, problems are shared, and solutions identified through regular conversations and reflection.
  • Opportunities to learn from things that did not work so well and to support change when necessary.
  • A whole service commitment to understanding and identifying waste in our systems, allowing workers to spend less time on paperwork and more time with children and families.
  • Innovative and creative ways of working, providing opportunities for personal development and reflection.
  • Supportive leadership and managers who listen and value staff input into service development and improvement.
  • Regular and quality supervision, valuing staff well-being and providing opportunities to reflect on cases.
  • The opportunity to work in small pods within a larger Hub, with a Practice Lead supporting practice development through regular reflection and discussion.
  • A Senior Management Team that is visible, approachable, and wants to hear and respond to staff.
  • A culture where staff are regularly praised and acknowledged for their excellent work as valued members of the service.
  • Access to coaching, mentoring, and opportunities for peer group supervision.
  • An excellent induction programme and tailored support to develop the skills, knowledge, resilience, and confidence of all workers.
  • Opportunities to work under a hybrid model, sharing time between the office and home.
  • The importance and benefit of peer support is recognized, with additional time dedicated to team development.

About You

  • You will be passionate about relationship-based social work and able to think creatively and reflect on how to build relationships to understand what matters to children and their families and support them to achieve this.
  • You will be committed to your own professional development and take up learning and training opportunities to continue to develop your existing skill and knowledge base.
  • You will ensure that children and their families are at the heart of all decision-making and their voices are heard and evidenced throughout all aspects of your work.
  • You will be motivated, dynamic, and passionate about securing the best possible outcomes for children and young people.
  • You will be compassionate, open, honest, and respectful in all aspects of your work.
