Job Overview

The Macmillan Neuro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist team is seeking a skilled and compassionate individual to join their team as a Macmillan Neuro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist. This is a temporary position, and the successful candidate will work closely with the consultant Neurosurgeons and Oncologists to provide a holistic service for patients with Brain and rare Central Nervous System tumours, Pituitary tumours, Skull Base tumours, and Spinal tumours.

The team provides support to patients and their families across Yorkshire and the Humber, with a focus on delivering high-quality care and treatment. The successful candidate will have direct contact with patients and carers, providing advice and ongoing support, and will also liaise with other members of the Neuro-oncology MDT to ensure that patients and carers receive the information and care they require in a timely manner.

The post holder will be involved in the development of services for Neuro-oncology patients and their carers, working closely with the rest of the team to deliver excellent care. The ideal candidate will have experience in working with individuals in Neurosurgery, Neurology, or Oncology, and possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and IT skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support, advice, and information to patients and their families who require Neuro-oncology care and treatment
  • Liaise with other members of the Neuro-oncology MDT to ensure that patients and carers receive the information and care they require in a timely manner
  • Develop services for Neuro-oncology patients and their carers, working closely with the rest of the team
  • Work closely with consultant Neurosurgeons and Oncologists to provide a holistic service for patients with Brain and rare Central Nervous System tumours, Pituitary tumours, Skull Base tumours, and Spinal tumours
Requirements
  • 20 credits at level 6
  • Post-basic qualification in Neurosciences (Neurosurgery or Neurology) /cancer/palliative care or relevant subject or working towards
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Degree
  • Advanced Communications skills training or prepared to work towards
  • Recognised teaching qualification or prepared to work towards
  • Relevant post-registration experience at band 5 or above in Neurosciences (Neurosurgery or Neurology), cancer, or palliative care
  • Experience of multi-professional working
