The Role
The Solar Solution Engineer will be part of the Group Technical department at RES, reporting to the Solar Lead. This role will provide critical support for solar PV projects, focusing on design and permitting phases. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting feasibility assessments to identify potential solar project sites
- Performing solar resource assessments and energy yield analyses to optimize project performance
- Supporting the techno-economic optimization of solar projects, including system design and balance of system considerations
- Carrying out miscellaneous analyses to support project development, such as resource and yield assessments
- Collaborating with the procurement team to discuss supplier options and ensure project requirements are met
- Developing ad-hoc analysis and tools to support project development and optimization
Requirements
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledge of statistics and data analysis
- Experience working on utility-scale solar PV projects, with a strong understanding of system design, string sizing, inverter loading ratios, energy modeling, and layouts
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in PVSyst or other PV simulation software
- A degree-level qualification in Electronics, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline, or a suitable trade/non-vocational background with relevant experience
