The Role

The Solar Solution Engineer will be part of the Group Technical department at RES, reporting to the Solar Lead. This role will provide critical support for solar PV projects, focusing on design and permitting phases. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting feasibility assessments to identify potential project sites
  • Performing solar resource assessments and energy yield assessments to optimize project performance
  • Supporting the techno-economic optimization of solar projects, including solar PV system design and its impact on Balance of System
  • Carrying out miscellaneous analyses to support project development
  • Collaborating with the procurement team to discuss supplier options
  • Conducting ad-hoc analysis and tool development to enhance project efficiency

Requirements

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of statistics and data analysis
  • Experience working on utility-scale solar PV projects, with a background in either development, EPC contracting, or technical advisory/owner engineering
  • Strong system-wide design skills, including PV design, string sizing, inverter loading ratios, energy modeling, and layouts
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with experience working on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Proficiency in PVSyst or other PV simulation software
  • Experience designing for constructability and installation, with knowledge of GIS and programming languages like Python
  • A degree-level qualification in Electronics, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, or a suitable trade/non-vocational background with relevant experience
