Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Nursing Associate to provide high-quality patient care at Churchill Medical Centre. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering a range of healthcare services, including phlebotomy, wound care, and health promotion activities.
Main Responsibilities
Key duties of the role include:
- Providing support to the nursing and medical team to ensure the efficient and effective provision of nursing services.
- Ensuring the effective working of treatment rooms and maintaining adequate clinical stock levels.
- Undertaking health promotion activities as directed by the nurse manager within agreed delegated competencies.
- Collecting blood samples in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring patient comfort and obtaining consent.
- Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers and accurately labeling all samples to confirm patient identity.
- Recording collection of blood samples in patient records in accordance with practice procedure.
- Spinning bloods in the centrifuge after the last collection time in line with SWL Pathology protocols.
- Ensuring samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
- Administering vaccinations under PSDs as agreed with the nurse manager following practice protocols and policies.
- Recording blood pressures following practice protocols and policies.
- Performing ECGs in line with Churchill and Orchard protocols.
- Performing spirometry after undertaking ARTP training against protocols.
- Performing audiology appointments in line with CCG and practice protocols.
- Undertaking doppler studies in line with practice protocols.
- Acting as a chaperone as required after chaperone training.
- Performing simple wound dressings and removal of sutures/staples after assessment by a trained Nurse.
- Recording wound progress as appropriate.
- Running Stop Smoking Sessions as per Churchill Medical Centre & Orchard Practice protocol.
- Maintaining agreed stock levels of clinical supplies, including vaccines and medicines.
- Working alongside a practice nurse assisting in chronic disease management clinics as per Churchill Medical Centre Protocol.
- Ensuring any queries are raised with a senior clinical member of staff.
- Undertaking BLS training and dealing with faints following phlebotomy.
- Notifying the GP or other clinical member of staff of any patient issues outside of your competencies.
- Liaising with other members of the nursing team to deliver high-quality patient care, receiving and directing patients courteously, and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Making effective use of the IT system by ensuring the consistent and accurate recording of information and the correct use of read codes.
- Completing the Health Care Assistant Care Certificate under the mentorship of the Nurse Manager.
- Participating in practice meetings, patient participation groups, and other meetings to improve engagement with the role of the phlebotomist.
- Ensuring safe working practices, the health, safety, and welfare of colleagues, patients, and visitors, and complying with Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Participating in the introduction of new procedures that will result in improved service provision.
- Identifying own training and development needs and undertaking appropriate training/education as required.
- Participating in an annual individual performance review process where objectives will be agreed, performance monitored, and personal development needs discussed.
- Attending all statutory and mandatory training as and when required to do so.

Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE level maths and English or equivalent.
Desirable
- Evidence of competency in any of the key areas of responsibility.
Experience
Essential
- Previous Phlebotomy, nursing, or other Health Care Assistant experience.
Desirable
- Experience of working with or in general practice.
- Experience of working with healthcare professionals and/or previous experience in the NHS or social care or relevant field (including unpaid work).
