Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Waste Management Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and delivering the Waste Management Policy 2021, as well as the Waste and Resource Strategy and Action Plan 2021-24, across the Directorate of Estates & Facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Day-to-Day Waste Management: Coordinate day-to-day waste management activities with campus managers and contract managers, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and codes of practice.
  2. Financial Management: Manage and report on the waste financial budget, validating invoices and preparing monthly/quarterly accruals for the finance team.
  3. Communications and Engagement: Attend monthly meetings of the Building User Groups and Lab User Groups to discuss waste-related issues, deliver training sessions, and engage with sector agencies to strengthen King's presence within the sector.
  4. Legislative Compliance: Ensure King's is fully compliant with current legislation and codes of practice relating to waste generation, storage, and disposal.
  5. Data Management: Maintain accurate and timely inputs into a central database for all wastes managed by Estates & Facilities, interpreting datasets and communicating findings to inform waste reduction strategies.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in waste management, preferably in an academic or professional services setting.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
