Data Protection Specialist

About the Role
The Data Protection Manager plays a crucial role in safeguarding esure's privacy and data protection framework. This dynamic role involves crafting and managing our data protection policies and guides, training staff to uphold privacy standards, and conducting regular risk assessments to keep our data security robust.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and Implement Data Protection Policies: Design and enforce data protection policies and procedures.
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensure data processing activities comply with UK GDPR and other regulations.
- Data Breach Response: Assist in responding to data breaches, including investigation, remediation, and reporting.
- Training and Awareness: Conduct training sessions on data protection and privacy best practices.
- Risk Assessments: Perform DPIAs and privacy risk assessments for new projects and systems; prepare residual risk summaries.
- Liaison with Regulatory Authorities: Serve as contact with regulatory authorities.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate data protection risks.
- Audit and Reporting: Assist with audits and produce compliance reports.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure cohesive data protection practices.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Law, or related field; advanced degree or GDPR & IAPP CIPP/E and/or CIPM certifications preferred.
- Experience: Proven experience in privacy and data protection, ideally in financial services; strong knowledge of Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, PECR, and ICO guidance.
- Privacy Programs: Track record of managing and implementing privacy programs, policies, and procedures.
- Project Management: Strong skills in leading cross-functional initiatives and driving results.
- Reporting: Ability to compose accurate and concise reports/updates.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
- Judgment: Pragmatic commercial judgment in assessing risks and business responses.
- Presentation: Confident presenter to management-level audiences.
- IT Knowledge: Effective understanding of IT concepts relevant to privacy; high IT competence.
- Multitasking: Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines.
- Independence: Capable of working independently or as part of a team, with limited guidance.
