About the Role

Browne Jacobson is seeking a skilled Claims Handler to join our Finance and Professional Risk team. As a Claims Handler, you will be responsible for delivering a first-class claims handling, resolution, and management service for a market-leading professional indemnity insurer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate the nature of professional liability claims, determine insurance policy coverage, and set strategy for resolution and insurer's reserves based on the most likely outcome.
  • Liaise closely with insureds and their insurance broker in accordance with our insurer client's brand values to forge strong commercial relationships.
  • Work closely with lawyers in our Financial & Professional Risks team and escalate matters as appropriate with our insurer client.
  • Update computer and paper records with details of the claim.
  • Keep the insured and broker informed both verbally and in writing of the status of the claim in accordance with client service level agreements.
  • Carry out claims management proactively and efficiently.
  • Undertake any other duties as required, commensurate with the level of the post.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Advanced keyboard skills and the ability to produce own correspondence and documentation.
  • Professional indemnity experience, especially handling solicitors claims.
  • Experience in dealing with claims handling (pre-litigation) aspects of a file.
  • Previous experience of defending insurance claims.
  • Previous experience of dealing with claims in an FCA regulated environment would be an advantage but is not essential.

Person Specification

  • Degree (or insurance qualifications) preferred.
  • Strong legal and analytical skills to assess the merits of any claim and understand the liabilities of insured clients.
  • Ability to work efficiently and methodically to effectively manage your caseload and use your own initiative.
  • Willingness and ability to learn, given the law changes on a daily basis and keeping abreast of new case law and groundbreaking decisions gives us an advantage when defending claims.
  • Confidence, drive, and ambition.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in taking decisions.
