Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Library Assistant to join our team at GBS Global Applied Knowledge. As a Library Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the development and everyday workload of our library resources and services.

Main Responsibilities
  • Acquisitions and Cataloging: Administer the lifecycle of book acquisitions, journal and e-resource subscriptions, and maintain accurate records.
  • Library Systems Support: Liaise with Library colleagues to contribute to the maintenance and development of library systems supporting acquisitions and access.
  • Customer Service: Work on the Library support desk, dealing with loans, returns, fines, and user enquiries, providing a friendly and efficient service to a wide range of Library users.
  • Cataloging and Classification: Work on the implementation of Library resources by cataloging and classifying printed material using MARC21 and LC classification system.
  • IT Support: Provide basic IT support to students when needed.
  • Project Participation: Participate in project groups and contribute to operational process reviews as required.
  • Library Promotion: Participate in the promotion of the Library and its services through events and Library tours for new students.
  • Administrative Tasks: Undertake other duties in support of the work of the Library as may be required, including design of informative material and participation on induction days.
  • Shelving and Maintenance: Perform shelving duties daily and maintain and repair books, projects, etc.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: The successful candidate should preferably hold a Degree in Library Science or Information Management or be experienced in working in Higher Education libraries.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Good knowledge of cataloging with MARC21, classification, experience in working with stakeholders, enthusiasm, and passion for promoting literacy are essential.
  • Communication and Organizational Skills: Good communication and organizational skills, customer service, keen on learning, and ICT skills are equally important to this role.
