Job Summary

This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist. The post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the paediatric anaesthetic team at the Leeds Childrens hospital (LGI site) in Leeds.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful applicant will be required to work with other consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive Anaesthetic service in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. They will also be expected to develop and/or consolidate expertise in Paediatric Anaesthesia, maintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research already established within the Trust, support service plans for the specialty, and participate in and progress Clinical Governance.

Job Responsibilities

They will also be expected to develop and/or consolidate expertise in Paediatric Anaesthesia, maintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research already established within the Trust, support service plans for the specialty, and participate in and progress Clinical Governance.

Requirements of the Post

The appointee must hold accreditation in FRCA in the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent, and have completed higher specialist training or equivalent if currently in a training programme within the UK. Applicants should have completed a recognised training programme in Anaesthesia. They must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Teaching

The Trust as a teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with the University of Leeds, School of Medicine for the undergraduate teaching and all Consultant and medical staff are required to provide an appropriate contribution to the undergraduate teaching programme. The postholder will be required to participate in the undergraduate teaching programme for the school of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organised on a speciality or clinical area basis.

Job Plan and Working Arrangements

The job plan review will take place annually, normally with the Clinical Director or Lead Clinician for Anaesthesia. There may be an interim review of the job plan where duties, responsibilities, accountability arrangements or objectives have changed or need to change significantly within the area.

Accountability

The postholder is managerially accountable for the use of resources to the Chief Executive and professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer through Clinical Directors. This may be amended in the light of the Trust's management arrangements.

Standards of Conduct and Behaviour

The postholder will be required to work to the standards set out by the General Medical Council in Good Medical Practice. This includes protecting patients when you believe that a doctor's or other colleague's conduct, performance or health is a threat to them.

Consultant Appraisal

Appraisal will be a contractual requirement for all consultant staff and the Trust attaches considerable importance to this approach intended to be of benefit to individual consultants and to achieve the highest possible standards in the delivery of healthcare and services. Arrangements for annual appraisal will be managed through the medical director for workforce.

Leave Arrangements

All leave should be applied for in accordance with the Trust's Leave Policy, normally giving six weeks notice of any leave, other than in exceptional circumstances.

Training

During the course of your employment, you agree to undergo whatever training the Trust deems necessary. You will undertake all mandatory training required for the role. This may include, but is not limited to, induction training, professional development and safe working practices. Funding of such training will be in accordance with the Trust's Staff Development Policy.

Continuing Medical Education

The Trust fully supports the requirement for CME by the relevant Royal College and acknowledges that it is an essential component of a consultant's professional activities that will be reviewed during the appraisal process and revalidation. Time and financial support for these activities will be granted in accordance with the Trust's Leave Policy.

Secretarial Support

As part of the resource commitments to enable the postholder to fulfil their job plan, the appointee will have access to such secretarial assistance as is required. An office with IT facilities PC, email etc will be provided.

The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust recognises the serious hazards to health caused by smoking and has adopted a strict no smoking policy. Under the terms of our No Smoking Policy, staff, visitors and patients will not be permitted to smoke at any time or in any part of Trust property, whether inside or outside the hospital buildings.

Rehabilitation of Offenders Act & DBS Check

This position involves access to patients during the normal course of duties and is therefore subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act Exceptions Order 1975. As such you must reveal any information which you may have concerning convictions which would otherwise be considered as spent.
