About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Category Director to lead the development and delivery of the Professional Services Category strategy across our shared service for partner Trusts. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving transformational change and achieving our ambitious targets by delivering value-for-money and improved services for our patients.

The Category Director will be accountable for the effective management of and the value delivery for the procurement of goods and services across the Professional Services Category. They will be responsible for line managing a Category Manager, and ensuring effective development and maintenance of Category Strategy, Category Plan and Commercial Strategy.

The post holder will contribute to elements of the overall commercial lifecycle, including Category Strategy and Category policy development and understanding NWL Member requirements. This will be done through the development of Category Management strategies, understanding of the supplier/market landscape, and delivering timely and effective support, guidance, and expertise to the businesses.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain Category plans for key spend areas and transformation programmes.
  • Responsible for defining the Commercial Strategy for each sourcing project, including but not limited to, clear sourcing outcomes and definition of contracts to be included.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of the Professional Services Category Strategy to deliver NWL PS strategy and corporate objectives and to enable maximum aggregation of low value spend, reduction in sourcing activity and reducing supplier base to enable value to be added by Management activities.
Requirements
  • Significant experience in a Category Management role.
  • Category management strategy initiation, planning and development process leadership.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering total cost of ownership savings by Category Management.
  • Experience in formulating long term strategic plans, involving uncertainty and impact on the organisation.
  • Strong project leadership and management capabilities and experience, with capacity to manage multiple small and medium sized projects.
  • Knowledge and experience of EU procurement processes, using Government procurement frameworks.
