Design Assistant - Junior Role

We are a well-established, reputable soft separates womenswear supplier, working with a range of online retailers.

We have an exciting opportunity for a junior designer to join our small team in NW1 London to support the designers with design development and administration.

This role would suit someone looking for their next step after a first entry-level position.

We are seeking someone with a commercial eye, able to work within a small team and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Creating technical design specifications and tech packs for overseas sample room development.
  • Fitting development samples with the design team and sending fit comments to the overseas sample room.
  • Designing CADs and presentation boards.
  • Researching current and future trends through various sources to identify newness for quick reaction.
  • Reacting to sales information and key trends to create commercially relevant designs and update bestsellers for our customer base across woven, jersey, and cut-and-sew fabrications.
  • Sourcing fabric and trims from overseas.
  • Organising, pricing, and archiving trim and fabric information - keeping seasonal information up-to-date.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 1 year's relevant experience as an assistant or junior designer at a supplier or brand (not placement).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator and Microsoft Office.
  • A good understanding of garment construction and creating a garment spec/tech pack for a factory sample room.
  • Strong hand-drawing/CAD garment sketching skills to efficiently communicate ideas.
  • Self-motivation with excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • A commercial, feminine handwriting style with attention to detail.
  • Strong presentation skills and confidence in presenting designs in meetings.
  • Able to work well within a small team with the ability to problem-solve and remain calm under pressure.
  • A basic print knowledge/awareness would be advantageous but not essential.
