Public Health Specialist Nurse
About the RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Public Health Specialist Nurse to join our team at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our infection control team, you will play a vital role in providing specialist care and support to patients with tuberculosis (TB) across Merseyside.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in nursing, preferably with experience in TB care, and will be able to communicate complex information and advice on healthcare to patients, carers, and colleagues. You will work autonomously and as part of a team to assess adults and children for TB, screen with Mantoux or IGRA, administer BCG vaccine, promote and undertake HIV testing, undertake holistic assessments applying national and local guidelines, caseload manage, identify close contacts of index cases, and facilitate appropriate screening.
You will be required to visit adults, children, and families with active TB at home across the pan Mersey region during their treatment, including those with MDR/XDR TB, HIV, and other co-morbidities. The post will be based in a Liverpool community clinic with close links to all relevant hospitals, community agencies, and the health protection agency. You will provide specialist knowledge and advice to all healthcare professionals, patients, and carers.
In addition to your clinical skills, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams. You will be committed to delivering high-quality patient care and will be passionate about improving public health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain a TB Data Base detailing TB patients' treatment, disease pattern, location, and outcome.
- Follow cases out of the hospital and ensure they are taking their medication as directed and monitor for any side effects.
- Identify those patients who may be at risk of non-concordance with medication and initiate and monitor strategies that will assist the client to adhere to an appropriate regimen.
- Identify close contacts of Index cases through careful questioning and ensure that they are invited to clinic for screening for symptoms.
- Registered Nurse (Adult) Level 1
- Up-to-date professional portfolio
- Evidence of recent CPD
- Registered nurse with a thorough knowledge and demonstrable achievements within chest medicine
- Level 3 study
- Degree
- Management and clinical leadership experience
- Relevant TB qualification
- V300 nurse prescribing
- Relevant TB qualification or adequate knowledge of TB prevention, care & control
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum depending on experience
