Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities and Services Unit Manager - Catering to join our team at the Ministry of Justice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the provision of high-quality meals for prisoners and staff, meeting all food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Monitor and maintain a safe working environment in the kitchen, including reporting any equipment faults or hazards.
  • Manage the achievement of Service Level Indicators within the unit, verifying and signing off documentation as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety management systems and hygiene assessments within the kitchen and associated areas.
  • Manage the catering budget, including costing menu requirements and providing cultural, health, and nutrition options.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for external and internal stakeholders visiting the kitchen, including the Independent Monitoring Body and Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Prisons.
  • Estimate, order, and manage resources to deliver the catering requirements of the establishment, minimizing waste and ensuring effective utilization.
  • Maintain security standards in the kitchen area, in line with the Local Security Strategy and National Security Framework.
  • Manage the prisoner workforce in the kitchens, ensuring they are appropriately inducted, trained, supervised, and paid.
  • Implement national policy and contribute to the development of local policy, procedures, and practice for catering, ensuring consistency across the unit.
  • Collect, collate, analyze, and act on data concerning the catering function, including feedback on food choice and quality.
  • Train wing food handlers on hygiene standards and conduct kitchen inspections, audit preparation, and documentation.
Requirements
  • Hold qualifications and competences of F&S Supervisor – Catering, including a Food Hygiene Level 4 Diploma or equivalent.
  • Be familiar with applying current health, safety, and hygiene regulations in a working kitchen environment.
  • Have previous experience in supervising or managing staff within a kitchen environment.
