Job Title: Classroom Assistant - Special Educational Needs

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Classroom Assistant to join our team at the Education Authority. As a Classroom Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children with special educational needs in a special school and/or a special unit attached to a mainstream school.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support children with special educational needs in a special school and/or a special unit attached to a mainstream school.
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering lessons to meet the needs of children with special educational needs.
  • Provide individualized support to children with special educational needs, including behavioral support and emotional support.
  • Collaborate with teachers, other support staff, and parents to develop and implement individualized education plans for children with special educational needs.
  • Monitor and record the progress of children with special educational needs, and report to teachers and other relevant staff.
Requirements:
  • Hold a minimum of a Level 2 childcare qualification as approved by the Education Authority.
  • Have a minimum of six months' experience of working with children with special educational needs in a special school and/or a special unit attached to a mainstream school.
  • Evidence of a working knowledge of information technology systems, including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and/or C2K schools IT systems.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the requirements of a Classroom Assistant (additional special educational needs), child development issues, and health and safety requirements relevant to the role.
  • Ability to work flexibly and creatively to help ensure a child-centered learning experience.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven team working and collaborative skills.
  • Effective planning and organizing skills to ensure work is completed on time to the required standard.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Hold GCSE passes at grades A*-C in English and/or Mathematics, or equivalent or higher level qualifications.
