Indirect Tax Accounting Role
At Direct Line Group, we're looking for a skilled Indirect Tax Accounting Manager to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you'll be responsible for managing and reviewing VAT account reconciliations and returns, leading on relationships with tax authorities and external advisers, and supporting the business with tax SME resource on projects and new business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly review of VAT accounts reconciliations to ensure any reconciling differences are analysed and clear next steps are advised to remediate.
- Review quarterly legal entity VAT returns to ensure all transactions are included correctly in line with VAT regulations and advise on treatment of new or non-standard transactions.
- Consolidate and file the VAT group quarterly VAT return to HMRC in-line with statutory deadlines and oversee payments to ensure liabilities and payments on account are made on time.
- Complete annual Partial Exemption Special Method and Capital Goods Scheme calculations.
- Prepare Error Correction Notifications (ECNs) to HMRC, evaluate any evidence to support the ECN, and co-ordinate any necessary remedial actions across the Group.
- Maintain the property Option to Tax register and prepare new option to tax notifications for VAT purposes and review property income from managing agents.
- Review supplier set-up, third-party invoicing, intra-group services, and ensure all agreed design and build processes and contractual terms are followed and provide advice to Finance and Business colleagues regarding best practice.
- Review end-to-end Motability VAT postings, reconciliations, and VAT statements to ensure they are correct and complete, remediating any errors and advising on improvements.
- Co-ordinate the continuous improvement of indirect tax reporting and audit processes in relation to VAT accounting.
- Ensure tax & non-tax risks and issues are recorded and support the Head of Indirect Tax to ensure issues are resolved through appropriate channels.
Requirements
- Suitable tax qualification, Chartered Institute of Taxation, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, or other accounting qualification.
- Post-qualification experience in an accounting or tax role.
- Financial services experience.
- Solid technical grounding in UK tax accounting with an awareness of indirect taxes in the financial sector.
- Effective working relationships with tax authorities and external advisers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
