Palliative Care Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join our team at North Bristol NHS Trust. This part-time, permanent role involves 7 sessions per week, providing exemplary care for palliative patients in the region. The Palliative Care team operates in an advisory capacity across all specialties within the Trust, receiving over 1800 new referrals annually. We are a dynamic team committed to delivering outstanding palliative and end-of-life care, fostering strong partnerships across various hospital divisions.

Main duties include comprehensive symptom control for patients with malignant and non-malignant diseases, psychological and emotional support, end-of-life care management, and rapid discharge planning in collaboration with local hospices. As a Palliative Care Specialist, you will work closely with CNSs and other clinical teams to provide high-quality care to patients and their families. You will also be responsible for educational responsibilities, including supervision of postgraduate doctors and medical students, contributing to both undergraduate and postgraduate education. Involvement in clinical governance, audit projects, and participation in research initiatives are also key components of the role.

Essential qualifications include MBBS or equivalent, full GMC registration, and CCT in Palliative Medicine with entry on the GMC Specialist Register. Demonstrable experience in UK hospital systems, palliative care management, and teaching are required. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams are essential for success in this role.
